Veteran Suicide Clock
Designing and engineering a functional clock, that represents the time sensitive issue of veteran suicide, was a rewarding and challenging process. A lot of research, prototyping, and nonsuccess happened before success happened.
Software Used: Adobe Illustrator, Laser Cutter. Typeface: FF Meta Pro. Materials: Printed on 12x12" Clear Acrylic, Black Opaque Acrylic.
One of the most important aspects in all design is in the process. With that being said, here is a glimpse into some of the process that went into the clock. It shows some mind-mapping, sketching, digital sketching, laser-cut files, final pictures and more.
An important and interactive element is that the hour hand reveals a veteran's name every sixty-five minutes. (According to the Veterans Affair, one veteran commits suicide every sixty-five minutes in the US.) To achieve this, I would use 3/4" opaque acrylic and laser cut the the opening just large enough to reveal one name.
